Social Media as a tool of Radicalization In India.

Radicalization is the process by which an individual or a group comes to adopt increasingly radical views in opposition to a political, social, or religious status quo.

In India radicalization is on the rise due to the massive penetration of social media into the Indian society. Unrestricted peddling of religious, political and social narratives has been on a growth ever since social media became a house hold thing in India.

Ordinary Indian citizens are increasingly falling prey to the radicalization attempts carried out with the help of social media. The effects of this radicalizations become visible on the ground in the form of acts of communal violence undertaken by individuals or groups.

For example a recent attack on a temple done by a person of a minority community is the ground effect of the religious radicalization done by ISIS sympathizers and the likes of Zakir Naik on social media.

Due to its effectiveness social media has been used as a tool against India by foreign enemy agencies.Indians who have a significant reach on social media also tend to spread religious radicalization for political gains.

The person in the pic above is an India but she is attempting to radicalize people of a particular community by creating a false narrative of minority oppression at the hands of Indian govt as it suits her political narrative.

Many twitter accounts, Yt channels ,facebook groups etc have been continuously radicalizing people of a particular Indian minority against Indian state and majority community by feeding them with the ideas of oppression and victimhood.

Indian govt is fully aware of this and has been taking steps to deal with this. Recently it banned many of such accounts that were causing a threat to the national security and communal harmony.

However due to ease and privacy such kind of new social media accounts keeps on coming up again and again.
